Senior Moments

with Kathy Earley

Mark your calendars! May is Older Americans' Month and all Freestone County Senior Citizens will be honored at a "Spring Fling" luncheon on Friday, May 8th, at the VFW Hall in Fairfield. The time of the event is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will announce the King and Queen of each senior center and the overall County King and Queen.

Plans are underway for the event, so be sure to "stay tuned" to Senior Moments for more details.

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the "Easter Parade" at the Butler Senior Center. Everyone was dressed in their Easter finery including their hats. They were all just beautiful.

A big thank you to Center Manager, Juanita Manning, for organizing the party and a big thank you to Rhonda Lawton for presenting the program. A great time was had by all.

Our thoughts and prayers continue for Marie and Aubrey Childs.

Just a reminder that we have four senior centers in Freestone County -- Butler, Fairfield, Teague and Wortham. We offer hot meals and various activities, games and health screenings.

We also have a Meals on Wheels Program for homebound seniors. In addition, we offer transit services to doctor appointments, pharmacy, physical therapy, grocery shopping, beauty shop.

The cost is minimal and if you are on Medicaid, Medicaid will pay for your trip. For more information on any of the programs we offer, please call 903-389- 5800.

Until next time, Kathy
