Game spans 4 days
Spanning about four days because of weather delays, the Fairfield high school Eagles baseball team dropped an 11-1 district decision to the Palestine Wildcats.
FHS head coach Bill Crawford reports the contest was cancelled last Tuesday, started on Wednesday and finished on Saturday.
After striking out six of the first seven batters he faced, Fairfield pitcher Justin Terry found himself behind 2-0 when he gave up two singles and a pair of walks in the third inning, then the game was postponed because of rain,.
The inning continued Saturday with Aaron Jones coming on in relief, but he walked two and gave up a double, putting the Eagles behind 6-0.
A bright spot for the Eagles came in the top of the fourth when Evan Simpson blooped a single down the left field line and moved to third on a misplayed fly to left center. Simpson scored on a sacrifice to left field by J.R. Vaughn.
Palestine came back in the bottom of the fourth to score five more runs.
The Eagles managed just two hits in the game, while the Wildcats recorded six hits and were issued eight walks.
A Friday night game at Brownsboro was postponed until Wenesday because of weather, and the Eagles were slated to host Athens early this week.
Fairfield hosts Palestine Westwood this Friday and heads to Crockett on Tuesday.
