Musicians to festival
THE 26-MEMBER WORTHAM high school band recently received "excellent" marks at University Interscholastic League concert and sight reading contest in Groesbeck. The band is under the direction of Bill Ferris. Four Wortham students advance to soprano recorder and ensemble state contests this spring in San Marcos.
The event is set for May 16 and is part of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival.
Duet partners Chris Hudson and Derek Hale will perform "Upward Trail," and Kirsten Chambers and Reilly Jones will perform "Regaudon.
Both duets earned superior marks for two qualifying selections.
Hale also will be performing piano solo and hymn arrangements at San Marcos.
Soloists advancing are Chris Jones, playing "Far Above Cayuga's Waters," and Reilly Jones, playing "Come, Lovely May."
The four students are part the "Rockin' Recorders" group of about 20 students in third through fifth grades.
The group is slated to perform May 2 as part of The Airing of the Quilts at the Walker county courthouse in Huntsville, a celebration held in conjunction Gen. Sam Houston Folklife Festival.
