Funeral services were held Sunday for Vernon Eugene Day, 82, who died Monday, March 16,

Mr. Day was born in Liberal, Kansas on Oct. 31, 1926 to Ivan and Grace Elizabeth (McElroy) Day.

He was raised and educated in Perryton.

After serving in the Naval Air Force, he graduated in 1984 from Canyon's West Texas University.

Mr. Day married Kathryn Francis Price on Sept. 7, 1947.

Together the couple had two children before his wife's death in 1975.

Mr. Day married Dorothy Helen (Crowley) Pletcher in 1981.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, at the New Hope Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at St. Elmo Cemetery.

Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Dorothy Day; daughter Holly Nelson and husband Ken; son, Price Day and wife Susan; sister, Valda Baker and husband Bob; sister-in-law, Betty Langly and husband Deke; grandchildren, Ranz and Sydney Nelson, Katy Day, Donald and Sina Harrison, John and Tracy Anderson, Noah Sebastian, Carey Bryant, Kristy, Kathy and Kelly Woodward;

Great-grandchildren, Daylen Richardson, Hunter Jefferson, Bailey Montgomery Bryant, Taylor Elizabeth and Paige McKenna Sebastian; sisters in-law, Marian Nelson, Mary Lou and husband Bill Nixon, Myrl Kirkpatrick, Ruby Martin and husband Cliff, Ruth Ann Rutherford and husband Al; brother-in-law, Harry Crowley; stepbrother, Lawrence Regan and wife Alicia; and stepsister, Earlene Schell and husband Bob.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Francis Price.

Arrangements were made by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield.
