FJHS teams dominate Eagle Relays

Claim first and second places . . .

Fairfield junior high school Eagles and Lady Eagles thinclads dominated events Friday when they hosted area schools at the annual Eagle Relays.

The FJHS seventh grade Eagles team won its division and the other three Fairfield teams each placed second in their divisions.

In running to a meet championship, the seventh grade Eagles tallied 148 points to barely edge second place Madisonville, 142 points. Other team totals were: Mexia, 120; Athens, 110; Oakwood, 42; Hearne, 27; and Palestine Westwood, 24.

The seventh grade Lady Eagles counted 125 points for second place behind Westwood, 134 points. Other team totals were; Madisonville, 116; Athens, 93; Mexia, 82; Hearne, 46; and Crockett, 16.

Fairfield eighth grade Eagle thinclads scored 84 points behind Palestine, 112 points. Rounding out team totals were; Madisonville, 80; Athens, 72; Mexia, 68; Westwood, 66; Crockett, 60; Hearne, 17; and Oakwood, 10.

The FJHS eighth grade Lady Eagles tallied 122 points to finish behind Mexia, 141 points. Other team totals were: Madisonville, 99; Hearne, 96; Westwood, 74; Crockett, 31; and Athens, 30.

En route to claiming the meet title, the seventh grade Eagles won four events.

Teammates Bryson Gates and Larry Rose provided a 1-2 finish in the high jump by both clearing the bar at five feet.

Another 1-2 finish came in the 400-meter dash with Rose taking the gold medal in 58.3 seconds and Keil Meredith placing second in 1:02.4.

Eagles pole vaulter Donald O'Brien cleared the bar at seven feet to win the gold and Gates ran a 27.3 to win the 200-meter dash.

Lady Eagles seventh grade athletes laid claim to six events en route to a second place team finish.

Picking up a gold medal in the high jump was Bree Bossier who cleared the bar at four feet, three inches.

FJHS distance runner Megan Hodges was clocked at 9:52.4 in the 2,400- meter race for a gold medal, and also won the 1,600 meters in a time of 6:13.4.

In a pair of sprints, Tiara Tatum won the 400- meter dash in 1:07.7 and Amber Williams won the 200-meters in 30.2

Gold medals went to the 1,600-meter relay team of Tiara Tatum, Amber Williams, Peyton Pierce and Megan Hodges, which posted a winning tme of 4:49.3.

The second place team title claimed by the Eagles eighth grade featured three gold medal performances.

FJHS pole vaulters finished 1-2 in the event—-Jay Roberson won with an effort of nine feet and Darith Chap cleared 7-6 for second.

First place in triple jump went to Aaron Cain, covering 34-10.5 in his best effort.

Distance runner Cooper Cole ran the 800-meter race in 2:29.9 to win.

FJHS eighth grade girls notched five gold medal performances on their way to a second place team finish.

Earning two of the gold medals was Katie Berger, posting a pole vault mark of six feet for first and winning the 800-meter run in 2:45.6.

Hurdler Sadie Schaeffer won the 300-meter race in a time of 54.2.

Distance runner Natalie Neill covered 1,600 meters in 6:31.8 to win a gold medal.

Claiming the 1,600- meter relay in a time of 4:42.1 was the Lady Eagles team of Sadie Schaefer, Jasmine Griffin, Natalie Neill, Katie Berger.
