FAIRFIELD EAGLES JUNIOR athlete Eli Pratt spins across the pad in the shot put at the Eagle Relays track meet. The Fairfield high school Lady Eagles track team claimed first place last week in the annual running of the Eagle Relays.

Eagle varsity thinclads took fifth place in team standings, Fairfield junior varsity girls were third as a team and the jv boys finished fourth.

Schools competing in the high school meet included Fairfield, Palestine, Palestine Westwood, Athens, Groesbeck, Oakwood and Mexia.

In winning the varsity division, the Lady Eagles scored 193 points, outdistancing Palestine, 125 points, by a broad margin. Other tallies were: Westwood, 99; Athens, 41; Groesbeck, 40; and Mexia, 37.

Distance runner Lilly Duarte returned to form by winning two gold medals. She was clocked at 5:46.81 minutes to win the 1,600- meter run and in 12:40.69 to win the 3,200 meters.

The 800-meter run went to Shelby Wickens in a time of 2:40.92 and teammate Kristie Brewer placed second in 2:42.64.

Fairfield sprinter Bre West won the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.22 seconds.

LADY EAGLES DISTANCE runner Lilly Duarte won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races at the Eagle Relays. Gold medals went to the Lady Eagles 800-meter relay team, posting a winning time of 1:46.42, and the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:25.28.

Members of the 800 team are Kirstie Brewer, Kiresten Cox, Derekia Coleman and Bre West, and running on the 1,600 team are Kirstie Brewer, Shelby Wickens, Kiresten Cox and Barvion Wyatt.

The varsity boys division was won by Mexia, totaling 173 points in the meet, while Madisonville ran second with 145 points. Other team totals are: Palestine, 96; Athens, 87; Fairfield, 80; and Groesbeck, 8.

Fairfield claimed gold medals in two field events—-Eli Pratt won the discus with a throw of 120 feet, six inches, and John Horton cleared the bar at 10-6 for gold in pole vault.

Groesbeck tallied 185 points to win the girls' junior varsity meet and Westwood posted 126 for second. Other team totals are: Fairfield, 85; Oakwood, 62; and Mexia, 7.

Winning three gold medals for the Lady Eagles jv was Kathleen Chappell. She cleared the bar at seven feet to win pole vault, ran the 100-meter hurdles in 18.09 seconds to win and ran the 300-meter hurdles in 50.10 to win.

Westwood tallied 191 points to win the boys' jv title and Madisonville had 129 points for second. Other team totals are: Oakwood, 102; Faifield, 52; Mexia, 49; Athens, 47; and Groesbeck, 34.

A pair of second place performances were tops for the Eagles jv—-Tevin Green covered 38-0.5 to place in triple jump and Garrett Henson ran the 300 hurdles in 46.01 to place.
