Funeral held for civic volunteer

Funeral services for longtime civic volunteer Doyle Burton Seale, 83, of Fairfield were held Saturday.

who died Thursday, March 5.

Mr. Seale was born in Electra on Aug. 14, 1925 to John and Cora Jane Seale and died last Thursday after a lengthy illness.

He served in the United States Navy and, following his military service, Mr. Seale worked as a building contractor.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church were he was as a deacon and served as former Sunday school director.

Mr. Seale was also a member of Young Farmers and a 30-year member of the Fairfield Rotary Club.

He was active in the community, serving as president of the Freestone County Peach Festival, and was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award by the chamber of commerce.

Services were held at First Baptist Church in Fairfield with Revs. Darrell Robinson and Bennie Mize officiating.

Burial followed at Birdston Cemetery with Larry Ivy, Dennie Kingsley, Barney Leach, Jerry Dotson, Carroll Cain and Sheldon Williams serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers included the deacons of the church.

Mr. Seale is survived by his wife, Jeanie Seale of Fairfield; a son, Jerry Seale and wife Gaynell of Knoxville, Tennessee; a daughter, Cindy Phillips and husband Stuart of Fairfield; grandchildren Anna Seale Barnard and husband Ray, Dustin McCarver and wife Spring, and Jarrod McCarver; great-grandson Dylan Culver; and brothers Cecil and Terrell Seale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lola Faye Wuzbach; and brothers John Hurley Seale, C.J. Seale and Ben Seale.

Arrangements were made by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield.
