Teague man faces murder charge
A 31-year-old Teague man, Caden Hodges Newell, has been charged with murder in Parker county as the result the shooting death of a Reno man.
Newell surrendered to officers at Parker County Justice Center on Monday, March 2.
The murder charge stems from an incident at a residence in Reno in northeast Parker county on Feb. 28, that left one man dead and another wounded.
Victim is Tracey lee Nickel, 38.
Reno police and Parker county sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting call at private residence where they learned that Nickel had been taken by private vehicle to Harris Methodist Hospital in Azel, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
Deputies and Texas Rangers were led to a Reno residence where the shooting was believed to have occurred.
Officers determined that two men, Newell and Lucas Ryan Doyle, 26, of Fort Worth were involved in an altercation that involved guns reported taken from an acquaintance of Doyle's in Fort Worth.
In an affidavit filed by Texas Rangers Sgt. Tony Bradford, Doyle and Newell went to the Reno residence to confront Nickel about the guns when a fight broke out between Doyle and the victim.
Doyle has admitted to striking Nickel multiple times with a mop handle he found on the porch outside the residence and was stabbed in the stomach by Nickel, who was then struck by gunfire.
The affidavit states that Doyle turned and saw Newell running from the residence after the shooting, and the pair fled together in the Teague man's car.
Doyle was located the next day at an Azel residence. A stab wound to his stomach reportedly had been cleaned and bandaged.
A man who was renting the residence where the shooting took place told officers that he was in the kitchen with two females during the incident.
