Candidates file over last week . . .

Four of the six entities slated to hold elections this spring wound up Monday evening with contested races.

The cities of Fairfield, Teague and Wortham and their corresponding school districts called elections for May 9.

With the deadline for filing as candidates closing Monday, Fairfield and Wortham cities and schools listed contested races and must hold elections.

The City of Teague and Teague Independent School District do not have any election contests and may cancel the May votes, unless write-in candidates materialize by Monday, March 16.

Interest in the Fairfield city council election developed over the past week when only one candidate was filed—-there are now six candidates, two for each of the three seats open.

Running for place three on the Fairfield council are incumbent Linda York and challenger Leldon Childs; Jerry Brim faces Lane Stripling for place four; and place five is sought by incumbent Jo Olive Zickuhr and challenger Kenneth Hughes.

Incument Charles Easterwood, who ran with Mrs. York and Mrs. Zickuhr as a "team" four years ago, opted to not return to his place four post.

Four candidates are running for two at-large positions on the Fairfield ISD board of trustees. Signed up are incumbents Blake Robinson and Jacob Carroll, John Fryer and Glenn Price.

City officials serve 2- year terms and school trustees serve three years each.

Wortham Mayor Judy Edwards is challenged this spring by former council member Ken Gibbs and write-in candidate Rodney Price, who filed Tuesday.

Seeking two at-large seats on the council are Butch Davis, Emily Keathley and incumbent Scott Batts.

In Wortham ISD, place one incumbent Bill Capers is unopposed for re-election while four hopefuls—-Tony Lee, Victoria Butcher, Doug Miller and Gene Price—-are running for election to place two. An earlier candidate for place two, Minnie Bailey, withdrew from the election.

Opting to not return to the WISD board in place two is incumbent Paul Collins.

No races developed for the Teague city council, but all three incumbents are signed up. Running for the Teague posts are Mark Hargis in place two, Roger Brooke in place four and Shane Reeves in place five.

Teague ISD has three candidates for three seats. Running for re-election are Randy Bruce in place five and Debra Lawrence in place six, and Sushama Walker is unopposed for place seven, which has been held by J.D. Hancock.

Early voting runs from April 27-May 5 in Fairfield
