2 girls to region meet

In powerlifting . . .

Two girls at Fairfield high school are the first ever to qualify for a region powerlifting meet and head there this Saturday.

Qualifying for region at Forney are Cally Hardwick, competing in the 148- pound class, and Jazzmin Hatcher, competing in the 132-pound class.

FHS powerlifters, boys and girls, competed over the weekend in a meet at West and posted some top performances.

Miss Hardwick won her class with a 705-pound total on three lifts.

Powerlifters all must complete a bench press, dead lift and squat to get a total for a meet.

Miss Hatcher finished sixth in the 132-pound class at West with a total of 610 pounds, while teammate Karmen Miller was sixth in the 148-pound class with a total of 625 pounds.

Competing at 132 pounds and taking ninth for a total of 515 pounds was Shelby Wickens.

Two members of the FHS boys' team, LaMar O'Brien and Lamond Gatson, brought home third place medals—-O'Brien lifted 1,115 in the 165-pound class and Gatson lifted 1,240 pounds in the 220-pound class.

Six Fairfield lifters, Tulio Cordon, Brodrick White, Brock Eggleston, Bubba Jackson, Adam Jones and Eli Pratt, claimed fourth place in their divisions.

In the 114-pound class, Cordon lifted 615 pounds, White hoisted 1,055 in the 181 class, Eggleston lifted 1,030 in the 198 class, Jackson lifted 1,045 in the 242 class, Jones hoisted 1,155 in the 275 class and Pratt totaled 1,255 in the super heavyweight class.

Finishing seventh in the 198 class by lifting 1,015 was Ryan Wilkinson, and Rance Sandlin totaled 670 pounds for 16th in the 148 class.

The boys' region meet is set for March 14 at Rusk.
