Abstinence to be discussed
      Programs stressing abstinence from sexual activity by teenagers is scheduled this month in Fairfield for students and their parents. Aim for Success, Inc., of Dallas will present motivational programs in three settings at the Fairfield high school auditorium.

FHS hosting academics
      Fairfield high school hosts area teams Saturday for academic competition in preparation for the University Interscholastic League District 20-AAA meet next month. FHS also is hosting the district meet. Students have participated in a series of academic practice meets this semester to prepare for district, which Fairfield has won 18 of the past 19 years.

      Two members of the 2008 Fairfield high school Eagles football team and two cheerleaders have been invited to participate in the first annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Super Centex Victory Bowl this summer in Waco. Picked from FHS are Eagles free safety Dalton Piske, defensive end Keith Daniels and cheerleaders Kortney Ballew and Brittany Shamblin.

At River of Life . . .
      Through music, drama and fellowship, River of Life's Youth Ministry pres- ents a new opportunity for area youth to worship with the first of many Sunday Night Live services beginning this Sunday at 6 p.m. One of the program's features is the "human video." In a "human video" the students act out song lyrics.

      The Dew Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper this Saturday at 4 p.m. in the cafeteria at the school in Dew. Cost is $5 and includes a bowl of chili, onions, jalapeno, crackers, cheese, tea, coffee and plenty of sweets.

      The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for area residents to fill temporary jobs in preparation for the 2010 census. Some of the jobs require employees to use handheld computers to canvass neighborhoods and update address lists. Other positions will provide office support.

      A spaghetti luncheon benefiting Project Graduation will be held, Friday, Feb. 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Fairfield. The lunch will include spaghetti, bread, salad and dessert. Cost is $8 a plate.

WHS male beauty pageant this Sat.
      Wortham's Operation Graduation will host its annual male beauty pageant this Saturday for the graduating class of 2009. The pageant will begin at 7 p.m. in the new gymnasium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Contestants will compete in evening wear and talent.
