FJHS girls beat Athens twice
Fairfield junior high school Lady Eagles split decisions in three district games last week against the Athens Lady Hornets.
The games were played Thursday on the road.
Lady Eagles seventh grade A cagers claimed an easy 46- 17 win over Athens.
"The girls gave a collective effort tonight. Points spread pretty evenly across the board lets you know they're doing a good job moving the ball around," coach Lia Frederick says.
"I couldn't be more proud of their performance," she adds.
Reaching double digits, 11 points, was Karonesha Lawry.
Others scoring for the seventh A team were: Tiara Tatum, 9; Peyton Pierce, 8; Taylor Gray, 5; Kayli Banks, 4; Samantha Walls, 3; Amber Williams, 2; Bree Bossier, 2; and Kendell Emmons, 2.
Best offensive players were Misses Pierce, Tatum and Gray, top defensive players were Misses Lawry, Banks and Williams, and best rebounders were Misses Bossier, Walls, Emmons and Madison Alexander.
In seventh grade B action, the Lady Eagles clobbered the Lady Hornets 42-4.
"Great teamwork! Everything clicked tonight," coach Brandy Lynch reports. "I'm very proud of these girls."
Leading the offensive effort with 16 points was Megan Hodges.
Others scoring were: Kamry Whitehead, 8; Carla Shamblin, 6; Brianne Faughn, 4; Sherry Hancock, 4; Alexis Ruder, 2; and Haylee Worley, 2.
Best offensive players were Misses Hodges and Shamblin, top defensive players were Miss Faughn and Loren Knight, and best rebounder was Kamry Whitehead.
Trailing 16 points at halftime, the FJHS eighth grade A squad fought back the second half but came up a couple points short, 43-45, at the final buzzer.
"I am very proud of these girls. They gave it all they had," coach Sally Hickerson says.
Top scorer for the Lady Eagles was Jasmine Griffin, 23 points.
Others scoring were: Sadie Schaefer, 7; Kassi Floyd, 7; Gabby Ransom, 3; Amy Lansford, 2; and Natalie Neill, 1.
Best offensive player was Miss Griffin, who had a season high scoring night, best defensive player was Miss Schaefer, and top rebounders were Misses Griffin and Floyd and Katie Gardner.
The FJHS Lady Eagles play Palestine Westwood this Thursday on the road.
