Fairfield man is fatally stabbed
A bond of $1 million has been set in the death of a Fairfield man who was taken to East Texas Medical Center Saturday with a stab wound.
Victim is Van Dorham, 57.
Sgt. Larry Warren reports that Dorham, who sustained a knife wound to the upper left chest, was taken to ETMC by private vehicle and died shortly after arrival at the hospital.
Peace Justice Shirley Mays pronounced Dorham dead and has ordered an autopsy.
Arrested and charged with murder is Beulah "Sally" Manning, 54, of Fairfield.
The stabbing occurred at a residence on S. Church Street shortly before midnight Saturday and Warren reports that police are still investigating what led to the assault.
First officer on the scene was Matt Foree, who is being assisted in his investigation by Warren.
The victim and alleged assailant lived together at the residence, Assistant Chief Houston Flowers confirms.
A third person, an adult male, was at the scene when the assault occurred and drove the victim to the hospital, Warren reports.
The alleged assailant has given Texas Ranger Jim Huggins a statement.
Warren reports that then the investigation is completed, evidence will be presented the Freestone county grand jury for action.
