A bond of $1 million has been set in the death of a Fairfield man who was taken to East Texas Medical Center Saturday with a stab wound. Victim is Van Dorham, 57. Sgt. Larry Warren reports that Dorham, who sustained a knife wound to the upper left chest, was taken to ETMC by private vehicle and died shortly after arrival at the hospital. More...

To fuel Big Brown power plant . .

Luminant Power plans to open a new lignite mine in Freestone county east of Lake Fairfield to continue providing fuel to Big Brown Steam Electric Station. Announcement of the new mine, for which a permit application has been filed with Texas Railroad Commission, was made at a luncheon last week at the power plant attended by area business representatives and landowners. Same day on I-45 . . .
Within a couple of hours last Thursday, Department of Public Safety troopers worked two rollover accidents on I-45 south of Fairfield. The first wreck occurred at 12:23 p.m. about 1.5 miles south of town and resulted in minor injuries to Angela Chong, 17, of Garland who was driving south in a 2002 Toyota Carolla. More...
