Driver spotted driving terribly, just East of Fairfield, middle of day, wrong side of road meeting oncoming traffic…. The classic drunk. Forced off the road by other drivers before he killed someone. And these guys were the heroes. Several of us arrived shortly, had trouble getting the driver out of his vehicle…. The classic drunk….Poor comprehension, unsteady gait, poor balance…..But no odor of any alcoholic beverage, no beer cans anywhere, not even an empty whiskey bottle. Then we saw he was sweating heavily, glistening, and this was a very cool day. Our friends from FEMS summoned and speedily arrived. They were on a first name basis with him, had dealt with him many times. We saw him as a DWI. They saw him as a Diabetic. They popped his finger and read a blood sugar of 33. Some glucose had him normal in three minutes. Apparently, he had taken his insulin correctly. He'd just neglected to eat.

Attention All Chili Hounds-Teague VFD will be hosting a Chili Fundraiser, Friday, Feb. 6th at the new Fire House, starts at 10:30AM, ends when the chili is gone. Better get there early. Another Big Birthday Bash…..Billy Ray Vestal's daughters pulled out all of the stops to put on a surprise shebang for him on Saturday at Calvary Baptist with a large crowd in attendance. DPS Crais arrests man in vehicle, US-84, following the man assaulting his wife. In another deal, man calls to report he is walking down to another's house, maybe going to kill him, said couldn't say for sure whether it'd be premeditated or not. He was more than merely inebriated. Deputy Robert Elom took care of this problem before it occurred.
