GANG GRAFFI CLEANED

AT PARK; SMALL

GROUP IDENTIFIED

Although there is believed to be no organized gang activity in the Fairfield area, gang symbol graffiti has recently cropped up several locations through town.

Mischief at W.L. Moody Reunion Grounds was recently cleaned up by several Fairfield are juveniles working to fulfill community service provisions of court probation.

"At this time we have seen just criminal mischief," juvenile probation officer Daphne Swartz says.

Gang markings were spray painted on one of the restrooms at the park, and Miss Swartz notes traffic signs and at least one private business building have been painted.

The spray painting at the Reunion Grounds copied the mark, or "tag," of Los Portos, an Hispanic gang operating in larger cities.

The gang's tag is a cross with three stars and the juvenile officer reports that gang members often bear a tattoo of the mark on a hand.
