FJHS girls open '08'09 basketball

The Fairfield junior high school Lady Eagles opened the 2008-09 basketball season last week with a pair of games at Palestine.

Only the eighth grade teams competed because Palestine does not have seventh grade squads.

Lady Eagles A cagers dropped a 37-29 season debut decision.

"I thought the girls played good for their first game," coach Sally Hickerson says. "I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."

Leading the offensive effort was Jasmine Griffin who scored 21 points.

Also scoring were: Danielle Ransom, 4; Gabby Ransom, 2; and Kati Gardner, 2.

Best offensive players were Misses Griffin and Gabby Ransom, and best defensive players were Sadie Schaefer and Natalie Neill.

In B team action, the Lady Eagles won a low scoring affair 11-4.

"We played great defense tonight. We did well for this being our first game," coach Brandy Lynch says.

Scoring for Fairfield were: Maegen Mayo, 5; Amanda Missildine, 4; and Katie Berger, 2.

Best offensive player was Miss Mayo, best defensive player was Miss Berger and best rebounders were Amanda Drake and Miss Missildine.

FJHS was scheduled to play at Brownsboro early this week and host Athens on Monday.
