Eagles 1-point shy (in OT) of upsetting Top 20-ranked Mexia But rebound to whip Westwood

The Fairfield Eagles made sure that a Top-20 ranked Mexia team -- picked to repeat as a Final Four team this season -- wouldn’t get out of town without a scare. A big one.

The Eagles took Mexia right down to the wire in both regulation and overtime last week. Mexia finally prevailed by the slimmest of margins -- 50- 49.

Fairfield 72, Westwood 66

Following the heartbreaking loss to Mexia on Tuesday, Fairfield hit the road to Palestine last Friday, and returned with a key 72-66 victory over district opponent Westwood.

The Eagles took a 7- point lead in the first quarter thanks to Bryson Gates’ four buckets.

The Eagles outscored Westwood 16-15 in the second period to take a 35- 27 halftime lead.

JV Boys sweep Mexia, Westood

Fairfield’s JV Boys continued their winning ways last week by defeating Mexia 51-40 in the Eagles’ gym, then went on the road to whip Westwood, 45-42.

The Eagles led from beginning to end against the Blackcats for the victory.

Will Akers and Joseph Jackson each scored 17 for Fairfield.

Lady Eagles’ talons too much for Mexia Lady Cats

The Lady Eagles dominated the first and third quarters last week for a victory over a Blackcats’ team that has been ranked in the Top 20 in Texas Class 3-A for most of the season.

Nine Lady Eagles scored during the game, and its defense made a staggering 16 steals for the victory

JV Girls take a pair in district play

The Fairfield JV Lady Eagles won games against Mexia and Westwood last week. They defeated Mexia 41-37, and Westwood 43- 11.

Against Mexia, Fairfield trailed at the half by five (22-17).

By the end of the third quarter it was 31-27 Mexia. But the JV Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Cats 14-6 in the final period to take the victory.

Frosh Lady Eagles beat Waco Methodist Children's Home 65-25

The Fairfield freshmen girls scored an easy win over Waco Methodist last week.

Scoring for the little Lady Eagles were: Jaida Smith- 10 pts;

Allie Edwards 10 pts; Abbie Judd 4 pts; Susan Owens 5 pts; Sarie Hill 12 pts; Hana Casey 2 pts; and, Keyosha Bass 2 pts.
