Suspects nabbed in burglary cases
      Two suspects were jailed in Houston county recently and charged in connection with a burglary there, and last week were charged in four Freestone county burglaries. They are also being looked at by law enforcement officers with six burglaries in Leon County, Freestone county criminal investigator James Barrentine reports.

Gunshot kills county man at residence
      A Freestone county man was found at his home in Freestone county last week dead from a reported selfinflicted gunshot wound. The victim was Gary Lewis, 56, who lived on CR 1092. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the left temple and was prounced dead at the scene by Peace Justice Shirley Mays, precinct four. JP Mays ruled the death a suicide.

Deadlines set for county fair stock projects
      Several agricultural project deadlines have been set for the Freestone County Fair junior livestock show. The fair is set to run June 14-19 at W.L. Moody Reunion Grounds in Fairfield. Broiler orders were due at the county extension office Wednesday. All entry cards and fees, for livestock and horse projects, are due at the extension office by April 1.

At reception Saturday . . .
      A Lanely couple will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday, Mar. 20, and have invited the community to attend. Bobby and Rene Thompson were married Mar. 23, 1985 in Houston. The couple has two sons, Brad Thompson and Timothy Thompson and wife Shea. Thompson is a Houston firefighter, and Mrs. Thompson is employed with the Freestone Credit Union in Teague.

      Dice and dominoes will help Teague Relay for Life raise money for the American Cancer Society on Saturday, Mar. 27 at the Eighth Ave. Baptist Church CLC building. The EABC “Praying for a Cure” team is hosting the Bunco/42 bash fundraiser with a 42 tournament starting at 10 a.m. and Bunco games beginning at 6 p.m.

      Fairfield Independent School District will celebrate Open House Thursday, and all parents, grandparents and community members are invited to tour the classrooms and buildings and see the work done by students and staff every school day in Fairfield. The elementary school will be open from 5 to 6:30 p.m., junior high school from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and high school from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Bonnets, cakes to be judged at center
      A cake contest and an Easter bonnet competition are on tap soon at the Meals on Wheels/Palestine Senior Activity Center. Events will be held at the center, located at 200 N. Church St.. Cake judging is March 20 and includes several divisions. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places. Proceeds will benefit the Meals on Wheels program.
